Overcoming the odds (black, female, poor and lesbian) Jewel Thais-Williams helped changed laws, save lives and influence communities across Los Angeles by opening Catch One. Jewel’s tireless fight against racism and homophobia broke down racial, social, and cultural barriers. In the late 70’s and 80’s Catch One became one of the original safe spaces for LGBT people of color and served as a place of refuge for those ostracized during the AIDS crisis. Jewel’s Catch One celebrates the music, fashion, celebrities, and activism that helped changed the course of our country.
